Any good ideas for books my high schoolers can read about culture or living in Africa?
Looking to get some ideas so I can see if our library can order some great books before we get into that unit.
The more you rely on coercion and extrinsic inducements, as a matter of fact, the less interest students are likely to have in whatever they were induced to do.
Very interesting article about how some teaching strategies can lead students away from being readers!
Most lists are focused on K-8 grades and … mmm … it seems as if many of the books are published by Scholastic. But still. A nice place to start.
So if you’re already falling behind, this list of lists is a great place to start.
Review: Teaching What Really Happened
Teaching What Really Happened completely changed the way that I look at designing my class around the immense topic of United States history. It is very similar in nature to Lies My Teacher Told Me but with more helpful tips and strategies for teachers. I’ve even gone out of my way to see James Loewen speak because he has done an amazing job pointing out the flaws with history teaching today and suggesting some great ways to change the system.
